NABATIEH, Lebanon — Ali Shahouri and Khoder Sabah were killed on Friday, September 4, after an Israeli drone targeted the motorcycle they were riding in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health confirmed that two people were killed when the Israeli military struck a motorcycle in Kfar Remman, Nabatieh district. Lebanese reports later identified the two men as Shahouri and Sabah, also referred to locally as Khoder Sabah Abu Hanan.
The strike took place near the Engineers’ Syndicate building in the Nabatieh area. Lebanon24 reported that the motorcycle was hit with a guided missile, while emergency crews transported the bodies to a hospital in Nabatieh and firefighters extinguished the blaze that engulfed the motorcycle.
Local outlet Yasour described both Shahouri and Sabah as civilians. As of Saturday morning, publicly available reports reviewed for this article had provided no evidence identifying either man as a combatant.
Their deaths came during a wider wave of Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon that evening. Lebanese reporting documented strikes, artillery fire and explosions in several areas, including Mansouri, Zawtar al-Sharqiya, the Ali al-Taher heights and the wider Nabatieh area.
For Shahouri and Sabah, however, the statistics of another night of attacks became two names and two faces.
They had been photographed together before their deaths. On Friday, they were together again when the Israeli strike hit.
Ali Shahouri and Khoder Sabah were killed together. Now their photograph remains — two Lebanese men standing side by side, before an Israeli missile turned that ordinary moment of life into a memorial.
